What is StemWave therapy?

StemWave is part of a broader category of treatments known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy. This advanced technology uses sound waves to treat pain and inflammation. A noninvasive treatment, StemWave is nevertheless able to penetrate deep into tissues that other techniques and tools cannot reach. It both decreases pain and heals damage, and its results last.

We apply StemWave therapy with a handheld device that generates these sound waves. The process is quick — usually around 10 to 15 minutes — and requires just a few sessions to bring lasting relief.

Why choose StemWave?

There are certain types of pain and injury that do not respond to conventional chiropractic treatment. StemWave therapy offers an option to heal and become pain-free without undergoing surgery, taking medication, or getting injections. It also helps you avoid the side effects that those treatments may cause.

  • Nonsurgical and noninvasive
  • No downtime — return to activities immediately
  • Less costly than many alternatives
  • No medication or injections needed
  • Minimal side effects
  • Quick 10–15 minute sessions

How does it work?

StemWave therapy works by stimulating your cells to begin healing naturally using acoustic sound waves. When we hold the device to the place on your body where you experience pain, the waves travel into your tissues. They penetrate more precisely and at a deeper level than some other similar therapies.

The sound waves cause microscopic damage — which sounds like the opposite of what you want — but this damage gets your cells working again to repair your injury. This therapy also reduces inflammation and can break down scar tissue. The boost in circulation aids recovery. Rather than masking pain, StemWave stimulates real healing so you can recover from the injury and regain mobility and flexibility.

Conditions we treat

  • Chronic pain (tendinitis, arthritis, musculoskeletal disorders)
  • Muscle and joint pain (knees, lower back, wrists, elbows, shoulders)
  • Foot pain (plantar fasciitis, heel and ankle pain)
  • Soft tissue injuries (muscles, tendons, ligaments)

Additional health benefits

What to expect

We’ll start by letting you get into a comfortable position — either sitting or lying down, depending on the treatment site. For most patients, StemWave treatment is painless. Some will experience mild discomfort during the process, but no anesthetic or numbing cream is needed.

We will apply a special gel to the targeted area and then place the StemWave device on it. The treatment usually lasts 10 minutes or less. The device can be loud, but most people only feel vibrations or a sensation of tapping. You might even feel a pleasant warmth.

After your session

There is no recovery time. You can immediately return to work or leisure activities, possibly feeling considerably better than when you arrived.

Some people begin to experience relief after a single session. Most patients start feeling much better after three or four sessions. Treatment typically unfolds over several weeks with multiple sessions, and we will evaluate your progress and adjust accordingly. The results are long-term because StemWave stimulates real healing, not just symptom masking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is StemWave therapy painful?

Most patients only feel a vibration, pulsing, or tapping sensation. Some experience mild discomfort during the treatment itself, but it is short-lived and manageable — comparable to a deep tissue massage. The device intensity can also be adjusted to your comfort level.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need between three and eight sessions, though some may need as many as 12 depending on their condition and response. We will evaluate and adjust your plan as necessary.

How soon can I expect results?

Some people report relief after the first session. Most patients start to see significant improvements after three or four sessions. We typically continue treatment for a few sessions beyond that point for lasting results.

Are there any side effects?

Most people do not suffer any side effects. You may have mild swelling, soreness, or redness at the treatment site. Other mild effects can include tingling, bruising, or skin irritation. These are usually short in duration.

How does StemWave differ from SoftWave or other shock wave therapies?

While both use sound waves, StemWave has a more precise focus and offers particularly deep penetration. This makes it more effective for localized injuries like knee pain or plantar fasciitis, deep tissue injuries, and chronic pain.

Who shouldn't get StemWave therapy?

People under 18, those who have had a steroid injection in the past six weeks, and those who take blood thinner medication should avoid StemWave. You should also refrain if you are pregnant, have an infection, tumor, or abrasion at the treatment site, have a blood clotting disorder, or have a pacemaker implanted.

Can I combine StemWave with chiropractic adjustments?

Yes, and this combination can make chiropractic adjustments even more effective. StemWave addresses the underlying cause of pain and inflammation while chiropractic adjustments help with alignment and symptom relief. We'll create an individualized plan to maximize your healing.
